Department of Pediatric Annual Report 2022 Banner

I thank you for taking the time to learn more about the Department of Pediatrics at Columbia and for reviewing our 2022 annual report.

At our core, we are guided by purpose and calling as we rise to innovate and care for children in Upper Manhattan, the greater New York metropolitan area, and the world over. It is a truly inspiring group of people who come together to make it all possible. Leaders in all fields in pediatrics transforming the health of children and bringing forward innovation and outcomes that can only happen when people are connected to mission and to each other. I am beyond grateful for the extraordinary members of the Department of Pediatrics and Children’s Health at Columbia for all they make possible. I am also grateful to you for your connection to us and hope that whatever your connection, we will find ways to deepen and make it more meaningful.

It has been an impactful year for us and for our mission, and I hope you enjoy the report. We have seen new recruitments and new programs, as well as the growth of those that are already world-renowned. I would emphasize our recruitment of Dr. Hülya Bayir to lead our Division of Critical Care and Hospital Medicine as well as to launch the Columbia Children’s Redox Center. I would also underscore Columbia’s role in understanding the true relevance of having had COVID through our designation as a lead pediatric site for RECOVER via the National Institutes of Health. Our educational programs of all kinds thrive and continue to advance leaders in children’s health, all through a lens of health justice, equity, and innovation, and I would also emphasize the innovation that our Office of Medical Education, Diversity, and Inclusion (OMEDI) team brings to children’s health and its future.

Again, I thank you truly for your connection to us and for learning more about some of the inspiring work in pediatrics at Columbia.

Most appreciatively,
