Patrice A Pryce, MD
Overview
Patrice Pryce, MD is an assistant professor of pediatrics at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons and attending physician in pediatric critical care and palliative medicine at NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital. Dr. Pryce’s academic interests include medical education and clinician wellness and resilience. Her research focuses on the development of innovative educational interventions that aid in health equity and identifying the pre-illness social factors that contribute to poorer health outcomes after a child’s hospitalization in the pediatric ICU.
Dr. Pryce completed her undergraduate studies at The Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education at the City College of New York and received a medical degree from New York Medical College. She completed her residency training in pediatrics at Cohen Children’s Medical Center/Zucker School of Medicine at Northwell Health and remained for an additional year to serve as chief resident and clinical instructor of pediatrics. She then completed fellowship training in pediatric critical care at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center and in hospice and palliative medicine at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
As an educator, Dr. Pryce has championed anti-racism and anti-bias initiatives in medicine and supported the career and professional development of underrepresented trainees. She currently serves as faculty liaison to the Pediatric Diversity and Inclusion Council, director of the Child Health Disparities curriculum in pediatric critical care medicine, and officer for faculty recruitment, retention, and leadership advancement in the Office for Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI). Dr. Pryce also serves as associate director of the Pediatric Critical Care Fellowship Program. In these roles, Dr. Pryce has partnered with leadership to create curricula that recognizes and acknowledges the impact of bias and social determinants of health on patient care and aims to mitigate pediatric health disparities. Her efforts continue to shape educational initiatives that promote an inclusive clinical learning environment and influence policy discussions and clinical practices that advance equitable health care practices for all pediatric patients.
