As part of the Office for Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion's (JEDI) ongoing commitment to fostering a culture of diversity and inclusion, we believe it's crucial to acknowledge those individuals who have gone above and beyond to champion diversity and who have made a significant impact within our workplace community and clinical learning environments. The Office of JEDI is thrilled to announce the JEDI Excellence Award, designed to recognize and celebrate those who have made exceptional contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion within the Department of Pediatrics.
2024 Resident JEDI Award Recipient
Estefania Chavez, MD
Dr. Chavez has distinguished herself as a dedicated leader in the Pediatric Diversity and Inclusion Council, having been actively involved since her intern year and serving as co-president during the 2023-2024 term. Her contributions to the 2024 Department of Pediatrics Diversity and Inclusion Symposium were exemplary and highlight her commitment to fostering an inclusive environment. Throughout her residency training, Dr. Chavez continues to set high standards forequitable patient care, demonstrated by excellence in communication with patients and families who use a language other than English. She advocates tirelessly for the proper use of interpreter services and actively educates others on the significance of communicating with families in their preferred language, as evidenced by her impactful departmental presentation on this topic.
