Pediatric Development and Inclusion Council

The Pediatric Development and Inclusion Council (PDIC) was established in 2013 to create a supportive environment for residents as they navigate their training, while serving as a resource for career guidance with an emphasis on professional and personal growth. Since its inception, the PDIC has experienced significant growth and broadened its focus. Health equity education is now a core component of the pediatric residency training experience.

Open to all residents, fellows, faculty, and healthcare team members in the Department of Pediatrics, the council organizes annual welcoming events, bimonthly meetings for residents, and quarterly faculty meetings.

The PDIC has developed resident-led workshops and conferences for the residency morning educational series, covering a multitude of challenging topics in an effort to support our patients and learners in centering the just and equitable care for all patients. Signature programs include a Health Equity Grand Rounds series and an annual HEAL Symposium —a daylong event featuring a grand rounds lecture, community health provider presentations, peer-to-peer workshops led by residents, and a town hall with invited guests.

In response to growing needs, the PDIC has expanded its structure to include fellow, faculty, and interdisciplinary liaisons, with tailored programming for these groups. A notable initiative is the partnership with the Office of Medical Education Development and Impact (OMEDI), to deliver faculty development workshops. With the establishment of the Office of Health Equity, Alliance and Leadership (HEAL), the PDIC is aligning its efforts with departmental leadership to advance its mission to ensure health equity, foster understanding, and promote excellence in healthcare.
