Lung Health and Disease
We are working to understand conditions that affect and diminish lung function including asthma, allergies, cystic fibrosis, and prematurity, and to develop more effective treatments for them. Researchers in the divisions of pulmonology; allergy, immunology and rheumatology; infectious disease; critical care; neonatology; and others conduct collaborative studies in related areas including:
- air pollution. chemical exposures, and environmental epigenetics in asthma and allergy
- immunologic approaches to reduce asthma
- pathogenesis of bacterial infections of the lung
- microbiologic complications of cystic fibrosis
- treatments for obesity-associated asthma
- animal models of alveolar developmental arrest in neonates
- the use of technologies including text messaging as surveillance tools to track acute respiratory illness
- lung repair following acute injury
